Pet Grooming – A Review of The Pet Portal Self Cleaning Slicker Brush

One of the many activities that I really like doing with my dog is brushing their coat. We just seem to be in peace during this activity and it helps me take a closer look at my dog’s skin and coat for any problems that may arise.

Brushing your dog’s coat is definitely a great activity that you can do as often as you want. It only takes a few minutes to do and is very easy once you know how. If you’re not brushing your dog then I highly recommend that you get started doing it soon.

For a successful dog brushing session you will need a quality, effective and easy to use dog brush. With that in mind, today we will be taking a look at The Pet Portal’s Self Cleaning Slicker Brush.

I bought this self cleaning slicker brush from Amazon.com. It seems that this brush is being sold exclusively on that site. Amazon is a very safe and secure website that offers prompt and on time delivery. I’ve been using Amazon for many years now and I’m happy to say that they have never let me down.

The brush arrived 48 hrs after ordering and the brush packaging was very nice with instructions on the back explaining how to use the brush.

I was really attracted to this slicker brush because of its self cleaning functionality. You can easily clean the brush bristles by simply pressing a button. The brush also claims to be gentle on the dog’s skin but tough on mats and tangles.

The first thing that I noticed when I got the brush in my hand was that its pins were initially hidden. After pushing a button the pins popped up and showed themselves like magic.

The stainless steel soft pins looked really well made. Often the pins in a slicker brush can be a bit rough but when I touched the pins on the brush they seem to be very gentle. Not too rough but not too soft either. The next thing that I noticed was the brush’s handle; it felt really comfortable in my hands and has a well thought out ergonomic design.

I have 2 dogs, one is a Japanese Spitz called Fafner and the other a Dalmatian-Lab mix called Manju. I tried the slicker brush on Fafner first and he seems to love the slicker brush. The brush wasn’t too rough on his skin, he seemed to enjoy being brushed by it and the brush quickly had his coat looking shiny.

Fafner’s fur gets easily matted so I tried using the brush to remove some of the mats in his fur and it worked like a charm. Usually, I’d have to use different brushes just to remove the mats but this slicker brush cleared them out like it was nothing. He didn’t’t even notice that I was removing mats. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

I continued to brush Fafner for a few more minutes and then noticed that the brush was starting to get covered in fur as always happens with dog brushes. This was the perfect time for me to try out the brush’s self cleaning feature. I pressed the button, the pins of the brush went down and all I needed to do was to wipe the brush head to remove the fur build up and it was clean and looking new again.

Overall, I’m really impressed with The Pet Portal’s Self Cleaning Slicker Brush. It’s definitely a an effective and easy to use slicker brush to use for any type of dogs you may have. I love the brush’s self cleaning feature. It can really help speed up the dog brushing process and will help to prolong the life of the brush. Importantly my dogs seem to love being brushed by this brush.
